Digital Transformation: Moving Forward Faster

In our news series entitled Digital Transformation: Moving Forward Faster, Dilek Duman, COO of Denizbank and İbrahim Gökçen Senior Advisor of Open Insights will be our hosts. They will host three events as part of this new Learning Circle series.

After giving a brief introduction about TurkishWIN, our speakers were asked to briefly tell their stories. Our first Digital Transformation event started with the following question:  ‘’How do companies move forward faster with having resilience?’’

Gökçen started the meeting by answering this question. He mentioned that after the economic crisis of 2008, the analysis of what companies have done in this process and afterwards will result in understanding how organizations should be selected during the current pandemic shock.

He listed the key elements that should be asked to the leaders of the organization when we someone wants to join a company:

  • Centralization, having the decision power closer to the customer, closer to the young leader,
  • Diversity, especially wide network, partners or supplier chains,
  • Digital workforce, which is a very fast mechanism.

Then, Duman answered the question: ‘’How to design, assess these processes for non-technology focused business owners?’’

  • The first thing to do to become resilient is automate your job, which means that we have to write a lot of code.
  • When we look at the two sides, namely, the technologists and business owners, it looks a little confusing because the business side wants to move faster whereas the technology side has to provide an environment that can support putting additional layers on top of the existing software codes.

Duman believes that in Turkey, it was a big problem in the recent past. She added that empowering is very important and that it’s a very understandable and simple business process.

‘’You have to unlearn then you have to design your process in a digital way.’’ - Dilek Duman
